One Street. One Table. One Community.

A New Tradition Begins on Historic Walnut Street
By the Green Cove Springs Preservation Society
More Than Buildings. Preserving a Sense of Belonging
What makes a town feel like home?
Perhaps it's a familiar face, a friendly conversation, or simply knowing that you belong.
At the Green Cove Springs Preservation Society, we believe preservation means more than saving historic buildings. It's about protecting the stories, friendships, and traditions that make our town special. Sometimes, it's also about beginning new traditions.
That's why we're inviting everyone to One Street. One Table. One Community.
What Our Gatherings Have Taught Us
Through Porch Fest at the Rivers House, Twilight Tours, our Speaker Series, and Ghosts of Green Cove's Past, we've discovered something wonderful.
People come for music, history, and storytelling, but something more happens. Old friends reconnect, newcomers feel welcome, and neighbors discover how much they share.
People aren't just looking for something to do. They're looking for a place to belong.
So we asked ourselves: What if the main attraction wasn't a concert, tour, or speaker, but simply one another?
Inspired by The Longest Table
Our gathering is modeled after The Longest Table, an idea that has brought neighbors together in communities across America.
In 2015, nearly 400 people gathered in Tallahassee, Florida, to share a meal, meet new people, and build friendships.
The idea is simple. Sit together, share food, listen to one another, and discover what connects us.
Our goal isn't to build the longest table. It's to build a stronger community.
From the Rivers House to Walnut Street
The historic Rivers House, built in 1884 beside Spring Park, is at the heart of the Society's vision for a Heritage and Adventure Center.
We imagine it becoming "The Front Porch of Green Cove Springs," a welcoming place where history, learning, and community come together.
One Table extends that same spirit of hospitality from the Rivers House lawn to historic Walnut Street.
Both remind us that preserving places matters because of the people who gather there.
Celebrating Walnut Street, Past and Present
Imagine Walnut Street during the steamboat era, when visitors arrived along the St. Johns River and the street connected hotels, businesses, and the famous spring.
Now imagine that same street filled with neighbors sharing lunch, exchanging memories, and making new friends.
What do you remember about Green Cove Springs? What stories have been passed down in your family? What makes our town special today?
Whether you've lived here for generations or just arrived, there's a place for your story at our table.
